Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
